A helicopter search located the beaten body of a missing 84-year-old Belle Rose woman around noon Monday in Rocky Bayou outside White Castle, according to the Iberville Sheriff's Office.

Anna Mae Hidalgo, reported missing in Assumption Parish on Saturday, died of “massive contusions,” but probably not in Iberville Parish, Chief of Operations Aubrey St. Angelo said.

She died elsewhere, possibly at her home, and her body dumped in the bayou off Myles Road, he said. There was no information on the weapon used against her, but Assumption investigators, who are handling the case, do have suspects in  Hidalgo's murder, the official said.

“We don't feel it happened here,” St. Angelo said. “...All evidence points back to her residence.”

Earlier, a group of people riding four-wheelers found Hidalgo's car abandoned in an Assumption Parish cane field and reported it to deputies there, he said. Assumption  Parish investigators found evidence of a crime at her home.

Monday, a deputy patrolling in Iberville Parish found blood at a bridge over Rocky Bayou and radioed for the helicopter whose crew located the body, St. Angelo said.

He said Iberville deputies, working with deputies from Assumption and Ascension parishes, investigated the Rocky Bayou site. The State Police Crime Lab processed the scene. All evidence will be sent to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office.
