Drug dispute suspected cause of Toni Lane arson fire

Staff reports

Investigators are in search of a Plaquemine man who allegedly set fire to a house Saturday while two people were asleep inside.

Christopher Thomas, 23, is wanted for aggravated arson, according to the Office of the Louisiana State Fire Marshal. The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office is also working to find Thomas.

Plaquemine firefighters answered the call for a blaze on Toni Lane in Stonesthrow Subdivision around 5 a.m.

The fire was believed to have been set after a drug dispute, according to State Fire Marshal Butch Browning.

The inhabitants survived the blaze, but barely escaped the house safely, Browning said.
