Selectmen present Holly Jolly Christmas Festival at COPAC
PLAQUEMINE - City of Plaquemine Selectmen Oscar Mellion and Jimmie Randle hosted the city sponsored Annual Christmas Festival on Dec. 22 at the COPAC gymnasium.
An opening ceremony kicked off the event that included singing carols, face painting, dance groups, art and crafts and music.
"It brings the families together for the holidays," Randle said.
Randle said the event for children in the community ages 0-13 has been held for nearly a decade.
"It was a nice day," Randle said. "We had a good crowd."
The event partners with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and includes a raffle of bikes, computers and televisions, Randle said.
"We do Christmas crafts with the kids and other people give donations," Randle said. "We have something to give each one of them."
Children are given an opportunity to make their own ornaments to take home with them.
"It is good to bring the families together," Randle said. "That is the reason we do it because not everybody is able to have gifts. We just try to brighten up someone's life."
