Iberville Master Gardeners to host tomato plant sale March 23

The Iberville Master Gardeners, a member of the Tri-Parish Master Gardeners Association, will host a tomato plant sale on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the greenhouse on “Mike” Zito Lane, located behind the L.S.U. Extension Office across from the Zito Multi Use Center.
Many tomato plant varieties that are L.S.U. recommended, will be offered for sale at $1 each. Some of these varieties include: Finish Line, Celebrity, Early Girl, Red Line and others. Pepper plants include: Green Bell Peppers, Jalapeno and Sweet Banana. Eggplants include: Large Green and purple varieties.
Proceeds from this spring event will assist with the many gardening programs in the parish. Current programs in place that will benefit from the proceeds are: 4-H Youth Development, Junior Master Gardener, a community garden, Habitat for Humanity, and donations to the Food Bank, plus assisting with landscape projects at the library and other public facilities.
The Master Gardener Program consists of taking 15 three-hour sessions on general gardening, landscaping, entomology, pathology annuals, perennials, and many other topics of interest to gardeners. Specialists teach these from the L.S.U. Agriculture Center.
