Brown sponsoring educational tours

NAPOLEONVILLE - Senator Troy Brown is sponsoring a series of educational tours that will host over 300 honor roll students from area high schools.
The tours began on Friday and will continue throughout the 2013 Legislative Session. Participating schools include Donaldsonville High School, Brusly High School, St. James High, Lutcher High, White Castle High School, Port Allen High School, Plaquemine Senior High and East Iberville High School.
The day-long trips will consist of guided campus tours of Southern University and Louisiana State University, and a tour of the Louisiana State Capitol.
The purpose is to introduce high school students to college life and to encourage them to continue their academic career at one of the many great universities in their home state.
The State Capitol tour will expose students to the lawmaking process and the leaders who make decisions that keep Louisiana moving. On days when the Legislature is convened, the groups will be acknowledged by the Senate Floor.
Brown said he greatly believes in the importance of higher education.
"My passion is to ensure that our kids are made aware of educational opportunities that exist beyond high school," Brown said. "LSU and Southern University continue today to be beacons for education here in south Louisiana."
