Fugitive captured in St. Gabriel robbery

ST. GABRIEL - Authorities said a tip to Crime Stoppers helped federal marshals track down a man accused of trying to kill two people during a violent robbery attempt in east Iberville Parish.

The St. Gabriel Police Department reported Wardell Anderson, 35, of Baton Rouge was captured in Shreveport on Sunday.

According to police, Anderson walked up to a clerk at St. Gabriel Grocery and Deli in February, handed over a bag and note and held up a gun.

Police said the gun clip then fell out.

Two other suspects were arrested prior to Anderson being located, authorities said.

Anderson is charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder and attempted armed robbery.
