AKA Sorority visits Louisiana State Capitol

Attending Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Day at the State Capitol were the following local chapter members, Barbara Davis, Quanda Charles, Wanda Henderson, Allegra Lockett, Pearlie Johnson and Charmaine Williams.

BATON ROUGE - Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated celebrated their 20th year sponsoring Louisiana AKA Day along with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated recently at the State Capitol.

Chapter members from across the state of Louisiana attended and had the opportunity to convene with legislators and present issues of concern to them.

The members also had the opportunity to attend the following forums: Project Leader & Volunteer Management Training, Human Trafficking: M.I.N.D.S Campaign, Civic Engagement & Participation, and Healthcare 101.

The Belle of Baton Rouge Atrium was the site for the luncheon and featured guest speaker and sorority member, Representative Katrina R. Jackson-District 16 Monroe, LA as the speaker.

Mayor-President Melvin L. "Kip" Holden welcomed everyone to the city of Baton Rouge. Greetings were extended to everyone by Charles Stoke, Louisiana District Director for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Closing remarks were made by Representative Roy Burrell-District 2 Shreveport.
