Plaquemine High School students achieve welding certifications

The Iberville Parish School Board recognized welding students who achieved the SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) Certification of welding skills during its meeting held Monday in Plaquemine. Attending the recognition were (left to right) Flip" Johnson, Plaquemine High School welding assistant with graduating seniors Bobby Cooke, Hunter Michelli, Brent Tullier and Joseph Nugent. Not shown were students D'Warren Jones, Terrell Scott and Tevin Weber. All seven students tested were awarded the certification. Also shown is Dr. P. Edward Cancienne, Jr., Superintendent, who presented the students with certificates of achievement. The school's lead welding instructor is Craig Granier, Sr. Board member Brian Willis thanked the school board for their commitment to the welding program as well as the welding instructors for outstanding programming. He also noted that many of the students are already working at area jobs in the industry. The program is one of a many career opportunities now offered as career options to high school students in the parish.
