MSA's Performing Arts Center ribbon cutting June 10

PLAQUEMINE - The Iberville Parish School Board and the faculty of the Math, Science, and Arts Academy West (MSA-West) will host an open house, tours, and ribbon cutting for its state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center on Monday, June 10.

The public is invited to attend.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with tours led by MSA-West students. A brief program will follow at 6 p.m. with the ribbon cutting and reception immediately following. The monthly meeting of the Iberville Parish School Board begins at 6:30 p.m.

In addition to the 525 seat performance center, orchestra pit and extensive lighting, technology enhancements, and sound control boards and booths, the new facility includes nine specialized classrooms.

There is a dance room, two art rooms with a shared Kiln, a theatrical black box, elementary and middle school band rehearsal room, an Orchestra room, strings room, Percussion room and a choir room. There is also a stage construction set room with access via rollup doors for truck loading to the main stage.

The first 100 seats have been wired for power and equipped with fold away arms for laptop use. There is also special stage projection with an oversized screen mounted above the stage for distance learning opportunities. The facility was designed by Fusion Architecture of Plaquemine, and was constructed by Lincoln Builders.

Parking is readily available next to the facility, located at 57599 St. Louis Street, off LA 1 South of Plaquemine. A reception will be held immediately after the brief tours and ribbon cutting. The ribbon cutting will be held on the Outdoor Stage.

The parish school board meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the new auditorium. Committee meetings will be held prior to the event at the Performing Arts Center.
