Plaquemine woman killed in car crash

PLAQUEMINE – A Plaquemine women was killed in a single vehicle crash on La. 75 in Iberville Parish Thursday morning, according to the state police.

Tonia W. Abshire, 40, was not wearing a seatbelt and ejected from the vehicle. The crash occurred just after 5 a.m. on La. 75 south of La. 3066.

An investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Abshire was driving a 2000 Nissan Sentra southbound on La. 75 when for unknown reasons, the Nissan crossed the centerline and ran off of the roadway to the left.

After leaving the roadway the vehicle entered a ditch, overturned and struck a tree, police said. Abshire sustained fatal injuries from the crash.

Impairment is not suspected but troopers have submitted a toxicology sample for analysis.

Excessive speed is considered to be a factor in the crash.
