Iberville Parish Oschner Health Center ground-breaking June 25

Staff report

PLAQUEMINE - Construction of the long-awaited new Iberville medical facility will begin June 25, with a ground-breaking ceremony set for 11 a.m. at the site off La. Hwy. 1 South from Plaquemine Truck Stop.

The public is invited to attend.

The new 43,000 square foot medical center will include an emergency department with 22 patient exam rooms, direct access to a helipad, radiology including X-ray, cat scan, MRI, ultrasound and mammography; lab facilities, and a full-service Ochsner health center with approximately 7,000 square feet of clinic space for primary and specialty care.

It will be operated by Ochsner Health System.

The Iberville Parish Council unanimously approved awarding the $19.6 million construction bid to build the Ochsner Health Center to Lincoln Builders during their May regularly scheduled meeting.

Completion of the 43,000 square-foot facility is expected in 14 months.

The parish's only hospital, River West Medical Center, was closed due to damage from hurricanes in 2008.
