PLAQUEMINE - The height of hurricane season is fast approaching, and local residents are aware of the dangers of this time. However, many don’t know that important information on preparing for and dealing with the weather effects of hurricanes can be easily accessed on a new website: www.i-caer.org.

The website, by I-CAER (Iberville Community Awareness Emergency Response), features detailed hurricane information, such as understanding hurricane terminology, assembling important documents and supplies for a possible evacuation or power outage, what to take to a hurricane shelter, and a hurricane tracking chart that can be printed out.

The website also includes emergency preparation information on a variety of home and personal safety matters, such as a variety of weather events, first aid, electrical outages, pediatric poisoning, sheltering in place in case of a chemical spill or leak, and more.

In addition, Iberville residents can also sign up through this website to have emergency alerts from the Iberville Office of Emergency Preparedness sent to their cell phones. Since many people no longer have home phones, these cell phone emergency alerts provide a way to be notified of emergency situations and updates.

I-CAER is an organization of Iberville industry companies and the Iberville Emergency Preparedness Office that works to keep Iberville residents safe by maintaining a comprehensive emergency plan and emphasizing safety in company operations.

I-CAER funded, installed and maintains the parish emergency alert siren system, provides a detailed emergency preparedness guidebook to all parish households, and also sponsors the Safety Town program, which teaches kindergarteners a variety of home and street safety lessons.

Industry company members of I-CAER include Air Liquide, Axiall, Boardwalk Louisiana Midstream, Brenntag, the Dow Chemical Co., Entergy, Harcros, the Iberville Office of Emergency Preparedness, Ineos, Kinder/Morgan, LBC Tank Terminals, Mexichem, Olin, Potash Corp., Reagent Chemical, Shintech, SNF Flopam, Syngenta, Taminco, Texas Brine Co., Total, and Williams.
