PLAQUEMINE - Residents need not be alarmed if they see a lot of law enforcement vehicles, armed personnel and equipment at Plaquemine High School July 22 through 25.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office is hosting an Active Shooter Scenario Training from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day at the school.

"Residents need not be alarmed, we are training to be prepared," Sheriff Brett Stassi said. "The training is being conducted by the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Stassi has invited other law enforcement agencies to participate in the training exercise, which will help prepare officers to respond to a shooting incident at a school.

"Of course, we never want to have a shooting at any school, but it is important that we be prepared and trained for any type of incident at a school. We have stepped up our presence at schools and have plans in place for any incident. This is just another step we are taking to make sure our schools are as safe as possible."
