ROSEDALE – The Iberville Parish Council met outside of the council's familiar Plaquemine courthouse meeting room for just the second time in recent memory when its regularly scheduled meeting was held at the new North Iberville Community Center.

About a decade ago, a meeting was held in St. Gabriel.

The $1.5 million, 10,000 square-foot multi-purpose center was dedicated in June.

Parish President J. Mitchell Ourso Jr. reported that the parish has acquired a generator for the facility and it will be used as a distribution center if a hurricane moves through the area.

Ourso also announced a Russian fertilizer company, EuroChem, has plans to build along the Mississippi River either in Carville or St. John the Baptist Parish.

Finally, Ourso said contractors have began driving test piling to support the new $19 million Ochsner Health System medical complex. Nearly 800 pilings are needed to support it, according to Ourso.
