ST. GABRIEL - Authorities confirmed that a body removed from a pickup truck found Wednesday overturned is that of Chris Broussard, a LSU student who has been missing since Aug. 27.

The truck was located in Bayou Manchac at La. 30 overturned and partially submerged, according to St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau. Broussard's family later identified the body at the scene.

A Baton Rouge Police Department helicopter was used to locate the vehicle late Wednesday evening.

A missing person case was opened Wednesday morning for Broussard, 22, who sent a message to his mother Tuesday around 1 a.m. suggesting he was heading home to Ascension Parish. He never arrived.

Investigators believe he was headed home along La. 30 when the truck hit a guardrail and landed in heavy grass.

Broussard was a senior at LSU and a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity.
