Iberville Chamber of Commerce tours MSA-West

Edward Cancienne, Jr., superintendent of Iberville Parish School System addressed questions about educational progress with members of the Iberville Chamber of Commerce recently at the MSA-West Academy Performing Arts Center. Also, featured as speakers at the event were Chamber president and architect for the new facility, Brad Guerin, and IPSS Chief Academic Officer Elvis J. Cavalier. Cancienne discussed academic progress of the district, showing Iberville as second in the state with a five percent proficiency growth rate for all students in third through eighth grades. In addition, he noted that more than 60 percent of teachers had earned "Highly Effective" or "Effective" ratings on their teaching performance scores, half of which is derived from their students' performance scores. Cavalier shared information on the MSA-West and members of the group had an opportunity to tour the new Performance Arts Theatre and classrooms. Cavalier also shared MSA-West students' performance scores, which are some of the highest in the state. He also shared a "source" chart showing that students from Iberville returning to public schools. The list included more than 15 public and private schools from the greater Baton Rouge region and parishes surrounding West Baton Rouge.
