Meek selected Catholic Commentator editor
BATON ROUGE - Richard Meek, a veteran newsman from Metairie, is the new editor and general manager of The Catholic Commentator.
Meek has served in just about every capacity in the newsroom from reporter to editor to publisher in his 36-year career as a journalist. Most recently he worked as marketing director for the Audubon Golf Course in New Orleans.
"This is a thrilling time to be a part of the Catholic Church," Meek said. "Pope Francis has re-energized the Catholic community and the excitement is palatable early in his papacy."
Meek replaces Laura Deavers, who is retiring after almost 29 years as editor. He has worked at two diocesan newspapers prior to being hired by the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
He served as sports editor of the Clarion Herald in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and associate publisher of the Catholic Chronicle in Toledo, Ohio.
He has also been the managing editor of the Bogalusa Daily News, slot editor for the Times Picayune in New Orleans, slot editor and assistant sports editor for the Biloxi Sun Herald and editor of the Sea Coast Echo in Bay St. Louis, Miss.
