Innovative sculptor Jilbert introduces “Lucy” to MSA-West students
Sculptor Joseph Jilbert shared his innovative sculptures, including Lucy shown in the center of the photo, at Math, Science and Arts Academy-West during an exhibition of 25 of his works recently. Shown in the center of the photo are artists Jilbert, MSA-West art teacher Annelies Martinez; and Jilbert's co-artist, actor Richard Brien. Over 1,000 students from second through 12th grades, saw the exhibit. Jilbert is a sculptor who welds discarded metals to create everything from two inch tall robots to 20-foot dinosaurs. He is a "Green" artist, meaning he only uses recycled materials. He encouraged the students to follow their passion for art and shared ideas and information on creativity with the students. He also allowed them to see and touch his artwork on the stage of the MSA West Performing Arts Theatre. Art teacher Annelies Martinez is the sponsor of the program at the school. Through his non-profit organization (Art and Seek), he has visited other schools in the area, focusing on bringing exposure of the arts to the public.
