WATD’s Fourth Annual Fall Fest/Gumbo Cook-off Nov. 2

PLAQUEMINE - The 4th Annual Fall Fest/Gumbo Cook-Off is scheduled for Nov. 2 at Bayou Plaquemine Waterfront Park.
We Are The Difference Inc. has added a Bake-Off this year.
“This is the first year for the event to be hosted at the waterfront park,” WATD president Rhonda Harrell said. “It has been held at the Mike Zito Multipurpose Center the past three years.”
An outdoor cooks dream with pots of gumbo filling the air with aromatic goodness, the cook-off is divided into two categories - seafood and non-seafood based.
The majority of the ingredients have to fall into one of the above categories.
Once the gumbo cook-off has been judged, bowls and quarts of gumbo are available for purchase by the public.
New this year is the bake-off with categories including cookies, cakes, pies, bars/brownies, bread/rolls and or muffins.
Bakers are not limited to a single dish but are allowed multiple entries.
“This is a great promotion for our community,” Harrell said. “It is also our biggest fundraiser each year.
“A portion of the proceeds will benefit a kindergarten student who recently lost her fingers, a portion of her hand and arm in a lawn mower accident.”
