Southern University hosts Math and Science Family Night at White Castle High School

Southern University and A&M College hosted a Math and Science Family Night during White Castle High School's Open House on Wednesday, Sept. 11. Dr. Luria Young, Interim Dean of the College of Education; Dr. Joseph Meyinsse, Chair of the Department of Science and Mathematics Education Doctoral Program; Bobbie Remble, Site Coordinator; Dr. Ken Ford, Research Assistant; Dr. Tonya Rose, Assistant Professor of Education, and seven students facilitated eight "snack" stations that demonstrated science and mathematics concepts. The "snacks" included String Wave Machine, Colored Shadows, Giant Slinky, Magnetic Field, Matching Colors, Building a Bridge, Optical Illusions and Faultline. Parents and students were immersed in these activities. Dr. Edward P. Cancienne, Superintendent of Iberville Parish Schools, said that he was pleased to see the increased number of families in attendance and engaged in activities. Charley Handy serves as principal and Gail Edwards serves as the Dean of Students and Academic Affairs and Southern University Liaison.
