WBR Museum hosts “Quilts of our Past” Nov. 3

PORT ALLEN - Quilt appraiser Dr. Evva L. Z. Wilson will speak on “Quilts of our Past” at the Ethel Claiborne Dameron Lecture Series Sunday, Nov. 3 at the West Baton Rouge Museum located at 845 N. Jefferson, Port Allen at 2:30 p.m. 

The annual event is sponsored by the West Baton Rouge Historical Association in honor of its founder Ethel Claiborne Dameron.

The lecture will include information about early American quilts with an emphasis on southern quilts, how quilts are valued or appraised, local quilts documented in the Louisiana Folk Life data base and proper care and storage of quilts.

Wilson has studied and worked with quilts and textiles at The Smithsonian Museum, Williamsburg Textiles Museum, Louisiana State Museum, and the LSU Textile and Costume Museum. Her career included serving as LSU AgCenter Textile and Clothing Specialist and as a Textile professor at LSU.
