Is Thanksgiving dinner cheaper in Louisiana?
Thanksgiving dinner will be cheaper for Louisianans
The American Farm Bureau Federation has reported that Louisianans can expect to spend $13.63 less than the national average for their Thanksgiving meal.
According to a statewide sample of prices for the 37th annual American Farm Bureau Federation Thanksgiving Dinner Price Survey, Louisiana residents will spend less than the national average.
The survey looked at what it considered a classic Thanksgiving dinner consisting of 11 main items, including a turkey, veggie tray, pumpkin pie and sweet potatoes, along with other miscellaneous ingredients. The average cost for these items in Louisiana is $50.43, the national average is $64.05.
For example, the average price for a 16-pound turkey in Louisiana is $9.12 less than the national average
Jim Harper, President of the Louisiana Farm Bureau said, “Louisiana farmers and ranchers work hard every day of the year to make sure we can enjoy three square meals a day and celebrate the bounty of harvest during Thanksgiving. That said, this has been a tough year for agriculture with high fuel and fertilizer prices and weather disasters across the state.”
Although the overall cost for Thanksgiving dinner may be less than the national average in Louisiana, shoppers can expect to pay 27 cents more for a gallon of milk and $1.65 more for cube stuffing.
