NEW MASTER GARDENER PROGRAM TO BEGIN IN AUGUST
The Tri- Parish Master Gardener Class is set to begin August 24th and run through December 21st, 2011. There will be 17 classes which will consist of horticulture subjects in ornamentals, vegetables, soils, landscaping, and more. LSU AgCenter specialists, agents, and other guest speakers will be presenting class materials. Once a person has completed the course of instruction, they will be certified as Master Gardeners. A certified master gardener is expected to give back the 40 hours of class experience in volunteering to assist the parishes with community service projects over the next two years.
The graduates of the previous classes have several projects that they are currently working on such as the Junior Master Gardener Program, Habitat for Humanity, and developing community gardens.
The classes are set for Wednesday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m, with the exception of once a month when class will be held on Tuesday night. Anyone interested should call the Extension Service office at (225) 638-5533 to register for the class.
The Master Gardener Program is open to the public regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or handicap.
