KREWE OF CYPRESS…2011 Debutantes for the local Krewe of Cypress are photographed here by Aaron Cormier. The young ladies are: from left, Bailey Alise Burleigh, Kristen Kathryn Grace, Jena Fontenot Grant, Elizabeth Michelle Grant, and Morgan Elizabeth Allain.

The local Krewe of Cypress presented five young ladies at its annual Debutante Ball held on Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Carl F. Grant Civic Center in Plaquemine.

The room was decorated in a winter garden theme, and each of the debutantes carried a nosegay of red roses and holly.  Kitty Martin served as this year’s ball chairman.

Introduced to members and guests were Morgan Elizabeth Allain, daughter of Patrice and Bert Allain; Bailey Alise Burleigh, daughter of Jaymee and Steven Burleigh; Kristen Kathryn Grace, daughter of James E. “Tiger” Grace, Jr. and the late Theresa Horn; Elizabeth Michelle Grant, daughter of Melisa O’Neil Jackson and Robert Powell Grant; and Jena Fontenot Grant, daughter of Lisa and Carl Prentiss Grant, of New Iberia.

Miss Grace was presented by her grandparents, Diane and James E. Grace, Sr., and escorted by Dr. Grace; and Miss Jena Grant was presented by her grandmother, Peggy Powell Grant, and escorted by her father.  The other debutantes were presented and escorted by their fathers.

These young ladies will serve as maids in the Krewe’s Carnival Ball to be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012.

Notes of interest:

Bailey Burleigh’s mother, Jaymee Ourso Burleigh, was presented as a Krewe of Cypress Debutante in 1989.  Her grandparents, Brenda Zito and the late C. Michael Zito, were charter members of the Krewe.

Kristen Grace’s grandparents, Diane and James E. Grace, Sr., were also charter members of the Krewe.

Elizabeth and Jena Grant’s grandparents, Peggy Powell Grant and the late Carl F. Grant, were founding members of the Krewe.
