Eastman and Eastman Foundation donate fitness equipment to strengthen community center
The St. Gabriel Community Center is shaping up its fitness equipment thanks to Eastman and the Eastman Foundation.
Team members at Eastman’s St. Gabriel site play an active role in the local community. Many use the St. Gabriel Community Center and noted there was a need for new or improved equipment. In line with the company’s purpose to enhance the quality of life in a material way, Eastman’s St. Gabriel team saw an opportunity to bring the purpose to life in a very tangible way.
“The Community Center is a staple in the community, and many of our employees and their families and neighbors are members of the Center,” said Tim Harris, site manager at Eastman’s St. Gabriel facility. We continuously look for opportunities to make a positive impact locally and ensuring that our community center is best equipped to help people maintain their health and wellness feels like the right thing to do.”
Eastman’s St. Gabriel team presented the request to the Eastman Foundation, the company’s independent philanthropic organization. The Eastman Foundation invests in initiatives that serve and strengthen communities around the world, and that improve quality of life, focusing its resources on organizations and projects in the areas of education, environment, empowerment, and economic development.
“Supporting the St. Gabriel team in achieving their goal to improve the local community center was an easy choice for us,” said CeeGee McCord, vice president of the Eastman Foundation. “The Foundation invests in innovative and impactful economic and community development initiatives that directly benefit residents. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to support the health and wellness activities of residents in the St. Gabriel community.”
With this donation, the St. Gabriel Community Center will now have brand new cardio and strength training equipment, valued at $150,000. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for July.
“We are proud to be part of the new and improved fitness center,” said Katherine Daigle, human resources manager at Eastman’s St. Gabriel facility. “The Community Center is a wonderful facility and offers something for residents of every age. I appreciate the support from the Eastman Foundation to make this dream a reality. I encourage all of our local community members to check out the new facility.”
