Iberville boys basketball teams all take first round

All Iberville Parish boys basketball teams advanced past the first round of the state playoffs. Beginning with the Plaquemine Green Devils (4A-6, 6-0), they whizzed by Beau Chene 71-47 on February 21. They play Salmen High (4A-8, 6-3) on February 26.

Next, seventh seeded St. John (1A-6, 1-6) had a bye in the first round and play Southern Lab (1A-6, 2-3) in the regional. The Southern Lab Kittens beat the Eagles 63-33 in a district game on February 5.

But the most buzz in the parish is due to the Class 1A bracket, where White Castle and East Iberville have a small chance of playing against each other in the state championship. First, top-seeded White Castle (1A-6, 5-1) has to get by Montgomery (1A-3, 8-4) in the regional on Tuesday.

Next, the 11th-seeded Tigers (1A-6, 6-0) will have to defeat the winner of number three Jonesboro-Hodge and Plain Dealing in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Plenty has to happen of course to see the two parish teams in the final, but it makes for an exciting basketball week.
