Pizzolato victory to be shown on local cable
A few weeks ago PS SPORTS announced that former Plaquemine resident Blake Pizzolato and his teammate Dwayne Eschete won the Wal-Mart FLW Western Division Tournament of the Venice Redfish Series.
The way they went about winning the tourney will be telecasted on Sunday, August 3, on FSN Cox Cable Channel 38, beginning at 10 a.m. for local enthusiasts to watch.
Pizzolato and Eschete, who hails from Mandeville, decided to move from the waters near Venice to the Cocodrie area, about a hundred miles away from the tourney home base. It was the right move, despite the distance.
They bagged a spectacular catch with a two-fish limit weighing 17lbs. 11 oz. on the third day of the tournament. The catch earned them the Wal-Mart FLW Series Western Division win and a $50,000 payday. Their massive day-three total limit of six fish weighed 48 lbs., 11 oz. and secured them a close win at the Venice Redfish Series.
Pizzolato is the son of Johnette Hollingsworth Pizzolato and the late Samuel C. Pizzolato formally of Venice, La. The Pizzolatos moved the Plaquemine and Blake attended and graduated from Plaquemine High.
He now lives in Montgomery, Texas. Blake’s dad proved to be an inspiration for he and his teammate. Eschette brought a hush to the crowd, and dampened many eyes, when he explained the significance of the win during honors ceremonies.
He commented: “Blake’s dad passed away in November, and he told me he wanted to win the tournament and dedicate it to his dad. So here we are. I’m proud to be part of Blake’s happiness. It just means a lot to us.”
Later, Pizzolato said: “I wanted to win one for my dad. Tomorrow’s Father Day, so I’m going to see him, and he’s going to get a trophy.”
The duo will be back in competitive fishing in Rockport, Texas August 21-23 and then in Cocodrie, Sept. 25-27. The Western Division championships will be held out of Biloxi, Miss., beginning Oct. 31.
