The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) has given its support to a service created to prevent construction fraud during the recovery from Hurricane Gustav, the group announced last week.

The on-line service, StormCertLA, is provided by Go Kahuna, L.L.C., a Baton Rouge-based technology company offering custom compliance technology.

The free service is available to those seeking a certified contractor.

StormCertLA independently certifies and continuously monitors the in-force status of contractors’ insurance and licenses. Interested individuals and companies can verify the credibility of potential repair vendors through StormCertLA’s website, www.stormcertla.com.

It also is a resource for contractors seeking certification in Louisiana. For all applications received now through October 22, 2008, the regular annual fee of $250 for contractors to initiate the StormCertLA certification process will be waived through August 31, 2009, for all licensed Baton Rouge nine-parish area contractors.

Business and economic development organizations in Ascension, Iberville, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana, among others, are supporting and distributing this resource to their businesses, and the Baton Rouge Growth Coalition has added its support as well.

“During the recovery period, it is crucial that the Baton Rouge area businesses and residents have confidence in the contractors that they are employing for their repair needs,” stated Adam Knapp, BRAC’s president and CEO. “StormCertLA allows them to confirm, for free, the legitimacy of their contractor quickly and easily. We are proud to offer the service our support.”

“Louisiana has been deluged with contractors flooding in to assist with the repair and rebuilding after the recent storms,” said Don Morgan, CEO of Go Kahuna. “It is imperative that consumers, both business and commercial, contract with companies that are both properly licensed and insured to conduct business in this state. StormCertLA provides for both. A StormCertLA certified contractor is a safe bet for consumers and a marketing advantage for the contractor.” said Morgan. “The depth of our service protects everyone.”
