Enterprise Blvd. South: Ourso to start right-of-way negotiations

The parish finally has appraisals on the land needed for rights of way for Enterprise Boulevard South, Parish President J. Mitchell Ourso Jr. announced Monday.

Ourso and the Iberville Parish Council’s 2008 budget includes $2 million for the project, which is to link the new Bayou Plaquemine Bridge near the Iberville Parish Jail on Bayou Road with Tenant Road at Belleview.

Progress on the new road, which is expected to provide an economic boost for Plaquemine, has been held up for lack of the land appraisals.

“The first appraiser didn’t do anything,” Ourso said. “[Engineers] Forte and Tablada hired the second appraiser, and he died.”

The third appraiser, Carlock Ogden Residential Appraisers of Baton Rouge, apparently was the charm.

Ourso said he plans to report to the Parish Council next week that he will begin negotiations with some 20 families who own property along the route. The Cardinal and Dupont families are the largest landholders, Ourso said.
