MUSIC ... RIDES ... FOOD: International Acadian Festival rolls this weekend

A weekend of music, rides and great food combine for loads of fun at the 39th annual International Acadian Festival, underway this weekend at the Mike Zito Multipurpose Center.

The event kicked off Friday and continues through Sunday night. Festivities for Saturday include a horseshoe tournament at noon, music by the Steve Juno Band from 2:30 to 6 p.m., a bull bash featuring X-2 Bucking Bulls from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and 80s Retro Band "The Molly Ringwalds" from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Events for Sunday begin with a 7:30 a.m. Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. The annual parade beginning at the K.C. Home on Regina Street and ending at Sebastian Road will begin at 10:30 a.m. The Wild Card Band performs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and a Bull Bash will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A tug-o-war will take place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., featuruing guest emcee Scott Rogers of the "Around Town" show. The band Waters Edge will close festivities from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

"All You Can Ride" specials will be available throughout the weekend for $18. A food court will feature items such as fried fish, red beans and rice, bloomin' onions, funnel cakes, etc.

The event is presented by the Plaquemine Knights of Columbus Council No. 970.
