D’ville trims SJHS for 7-2A grid crown; White Castle could win share of 7-1A title tonight

Visiting Donaldsonville High took advantage of five St. John High fumbles, two leading to their scores, to eke out a 13-9 victory last night (Thursday, Nov. 6) and claimed the District 7-2A football crown as a result. Meanwhile, White Castle ends regular season action tonight with a possible share of its district title, while three other teams end their season tonight.

The local SJHS Eagles (6-3) had one final possession inside DHS territory to score, but got no further than the Tiger 35-yard line.

It was the second-straight year DHS trimmed St. John for the district gridiron title. Both entered the title game with perfect 3-0 district marks. The title win allowed Donaldsonville to close out its regular season with an 8-0 record. Both clubs are expected to gain state playoff berths Sunday with the state pairings are announced.

Josh Johnson paced the Eagle offense with 108 yards rushing and their only touchdown on a four-yard run to erase a 13-0 DHS lead in the third quarter.

TONIGHT … The Plaquemine Green Devils (0-7) seek their one win of the season, but must do so against the hosting Lutcher Bulldogs (8-1) in a District 7-3A matchup. Lutcher will claim at least a share of the 7-3A title with a win over Plaquemine. … The White Castle Bulldogs (4-4) heads to Morgan City High School for a non-district skirmish against Central Catholic. WCHS can claim a share of the District 7-1A title if Ascension Catholic defeats West St. John … Either East Iberville or North Iberville will end their season with one win tonight. The winless 9-1A squads meet tonight at North Iberville High School in Rosedale. East Iberville enters the game 0-6, while North Iberville is 0-7.
