A 19-year-old Breaux Bridge man was electrocuted in a construction accident Friday at an oil field in Ramah, Maj. Johnny Blanchard of the Iberville Sheriff’s Office reported.

Eric A. Cogswell Jr. died despite the prolonged efforts of his coworkers, parish deputies and Acadian Ambulance medical technicians to resuscitate him at the scene, Blanchard said.

Acadian AirMed took Cogswell to Baton Rouge General Midcity, where he was pronounced dead at 12:45 p.m., the major said.

The accident occurred just after 11 a.m. as workers unloaded an aluminum ladder from the top of a pick-up truck, Blanchard said. When they raised the ladder, it hit a low-hanging power line, electrocuting Cogswell, he said.

Cogswell worked for Hook-Up and Pipeline Construction Inc. of St. Martinville, Blanchard said.

He said Pointe Coupee Electric Cooperative, which owned the power line, sent a safety team to investigate the incident.
