Brusly, Port Allen suffer first round grid playoff losses

Neighboring Brusly High and Port Allen suffered first-round state 3-A football losses Friday night, ending their seasons.

In the meantime, District 9-3A rivals of BHS, PAHS, and local Plaquemine High, St. Charles and Lutcher both claimed victories as did St. John district rival Donaldsonville High.


Coach Erik Willis’ Brusly Panthers suffered a 35-20 road loss to Cecilia High in the first round of the 3-A playoffs Friday night.

Marcus Wiltz led the CHS Bulldogs to victory with a trio of touchdowns. Brusly tallied on a 38-yard TD pass from quarterback Chet Simoneaux to running back Marlon Reed. Brent Henry also tallied on a short run for the Panthers.


The Pelicans fell by a 42-7 score to Richwood High in a first round in a 3-A first-round road game. The hosts ran for over 320 yards, while QB Greg Johnson added to a pair of long TDs with a scoring pass.


The Tigers remained unbeaten in 2008 with a first-round Class 2-A playoff win over Westminster Christian. Donaldsonville won by a 40-14 score.

Laine Bailey had a pair of long touchdown runs. The DHS QB also passed for a pair of TDs to Antonio Smith, who added a score on a 28-yard run. Jamar Landry paced the DHS rushing attack with 141 yards.
