Lady Bulldogs, Eagles both fall in first round of volleyball playoffs

White Castle High’s Simone Beauvais was among the seniors Guiding their respective volleyball teams to state playoff berths this season.

Both White Castle High and St. John High volleyball teams lost in opening round state playoff games early last week to end their respective seasons.

Hosting Metairie Park Country Day School beat

the Lady Bulldogs of WCHS by set scores of 25-6, 25-9, and 25-9 in Division V first-round action. The win boosted Country Day to the state tournament at Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.

The Lady Eagles of SJHS fell to hosting John Curtis High, also down in the metro New Orleans area, in Division IV classification. The Lady Patriots topped St. John in three sets, registering wins of 25-6, 25-17, and 25-0.

Both WCHS and SJHS had young teams this season with only a couple of senior players per squad. White Castle took runner-up honors in their district, while St. John was a high-number seed and was the second-to-last team to net a playoff berth in Division IV after finishing third place in their league.

WCHS was led during the regular season by Ronquel Gibson, Simone Beauvais, Stacy Saylor, Angela Brown, Shelby Martin, Tyrenee Foster, and Meeker Melancon. SJHS leaders were Ashley Mumphrey, Kylee Brown, Morgan Amorello, Halie Verret, and Katie Falcon.
