Brusly girls top visiting WCHS Lady Bulldogs

Hosting Brusly High rallied strong in the final period of play to turn back visiting lower classification White Castle High 49-43 early last week in a local girls’ basketball contest.

The victory boosted the BHS Lady Panthers to 1-3, while White Castle fell to the same 1-3 early season record.

Brusly used a huge 20-8 run in the final period to overcome a 21-17 WCHS halftime lead and a 35-29 margin after three periods.

Lady Panther veteran Shantrell Pierson led the rally and finished with a game-high 21 points, including a three-point bucket.

White Castle was paced by the sister duo of Bryanshel Gibson (14 points) and Ronquel Gibson (10 points). Shelby Martin added 10, while Tyrenee Foster chipped in 5 and Meeker Melancon a point.

Backing Pierson for Brusly were Ahsley Lemar with 8, Shelby Williams and Artressa Christophe with 6 apiece, and Chaice Williams with 4 markers.

BHS also won the JV game by a narrow 24-23 margin.
