White Castle officer injured in La. 1 crash
White Castle Police Officer Kendall Delone suffered serious injuries after a cane truck driver pulled out in front of him on La. 1 early Sunday morning, Sgt. Markus L. Smith of Louisiana State Police Troop A said.
Delone, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from his vehicle, Smith said. He said the officer and his passenger, another White Castle Police Department employee who was unidentified, were taken to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge for treatment. The passenger, also not wearing a seatbelt, sustained moderate injuries.
Smith said Delone was traveling south on La. 1 north of White Castle when the 18-wheel cane truck pulled out of a private driveway in front Delone in the southbound lane.
Delone was unable to avoid the collision and struck the cane truck in the rear.
The driver of the sugar cane truck, Manuel Contreras of Mexico, was cited for failure to yield from a private driveway.
