East Iberville High’s Tigers evened up their season record at 8-8 early last week by taking a romping-stomping 62-23 victory over visiting lower classification Jehovah Jireh of Baton Rouge.

Coach Doug Schultz’s Tigers blew open a low-scoring, close 7-6 first-quarter battle by rolling up huge margins of 18-2 and 20-3 over the next two periods of competition. EIHS added a final 18-11 scoring advantage in the fourth stanza to win by 39 points.

A trio of Tigers tallied in double figures to lead the locals’ offensive attack. Point guard Donovan Richardson nailed 12 points, while Mitch Johnson netted 11, and Aldrick Nelson added 10. Five EI players hit two buckets apiece for 4 points and a total of 20 for the Tiger offense. They were Sheldon Ballom, Andre Wright, Gabe Schultz, Greg Pickett, and Brandon James. Arno Grace closed out the scoring attack with a pair.

James Curtis netted 12 of his team’s 23 points to lead Jehovah Jireh in the road loss.

The Tigers open District 9-A competition in two weeks.
