CHAMPS AGAIN ... The Brusly High School Wrestling Team captured its sixth consecutive state championship Saturday in Kenner.

They did it again! Brusly High’s Panthers claimed their sixth-straight Division III state wrestling title Saturday in Kenner’s Pontchartrain Center.

Coach Jimmy Bible’s youngest club to ever win the crown did so by a romp as they outscored second-place North Vermilion High by a margin of 297 to 144. John Curtis, Evangel Christian, Rayne, Parkview Baptist, Basile, South Plaquemines, Calvary Baptist, and Redemptorist finished out the top ten in order. Plaquemine High closed out 18th in the field with 3 points.

Brusly wrestlers won eight individual weight class championships to lead the way to another state title.

Panthers taking weight titles were: Austin Schermer in 107-lb. weight class, Kyle Busby in 112-lb., Tyler Rockforte in 125-lb., Logan Romero in 130-lb., Ty Welch in 140-lb., Beau Haydel in 160-lb., Chris Couty in 171-lb., and Anthony Hood in 189-lb. Two other BHS wrestlers took state runner-up honors in weight classes.

Brusly began its wrestling program in the late 1970s and has several other state crowns to go with their string of six in a row in recent years. The program also has numerous top-five and top-ten finishes in a row.
