Plaquemine High’s Lady Green Devils claimed District 9-3A runner-up honors early last week with a 52-50 overtime victory over Port Allen High.

The win boosted Coach Cormanda Grace-Green’s PHS club to a 6-2 district mark and a 14-17 overall showing. The victory put the PHS girls’ hoop program in its fourth-straight state playoff berth.

Hosting Port Allen made the PHS girls work for their sixth league win as the game went into overtime before it was settled. Plaquemine had to rally for an 18-8 advantage in the final regulation period to knot the score at 48-all. The hosting Pelicans led 20-19 at intermission and 35-25 after a trio of quarters.

Senior veteran Brittany Brown led the way for PHS with a game-high 21 points, while the duo of Brianna Arnold and Candace Hastings provided solid support with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Jazmine Burnstein added 3 additional points. Christine Harrell led Port Allen with 18 markers.

PHS also won the Junior Varsity game by a 41-18 score.

In other early week league play Brusly High moved to 4-3 with a 42-35 victory over last-place Lutcher High.
