PHS breezes by Pels to fifth 9-3A hoop victory
Plaquemine High breezed by hosting Port Allen High early last week by a 71-41 score to push its boys’ basketball District 9-3A record to 5-1.
The win was the second over neighboring PAHS for Coach Denny Wright’s second-ranked 26-4 overall Green Devils. Still, PHS remained in second place in the league standings behind 6-0 Lutcher, a 76-47 victory over Brusly early last week.
The Green Devils jumped out to a 25-12 lead and never looked back, registering a 21-8 advantage in the third stanza.
Deryl Lewis poured in 25 points to lead the PHS offensive attack, while Maquel Robinson tallied 18 points, including a trio of 3-point buckets. Adding to the PHS offense were Demario Camper with 8 points and the foursome of Cody Edmond, Jeff Ricard, D’Andre Stevens, and Evan Franklin, who each netted 4 points. Ryan Travis and Demarcus Veal scored 2 apiece to round out the attack.
Tyler Washington led the hosting Pelicans with 18, while Marcus Parker scored 12. The loss pushed PAHS well behind Lutcher, PHS, and St. Charles in the district hoop race with two games remaining for all teams.
