Bright skies, beautiful autos highlight annual St. Jude Car Show at Locks

Several thousand people took advantage of beautiful spring weather Saturday so they could attend the Plaquemine Lock State Historic Site last weekend for the 11th annual St. Jude Car show, sponsored in part by the Baton Rouge Corvette Club.
More than 200 cars, trucks and motorcycles adorned the grounds of the locks for the annual event, which raises funds for the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Local Corvette enthusiast Joe Collettie, who launched the annual event in 1998, coordinated the festivities.
Auto enthusiasts from all parts of Louisiana, as well as Texas and Mississippi, participated in the event, which has grown into one of the most popular annual attractions in Iberville Parish.
As with most other festivities in south Louisiana, the event featured games, door prizes, live music and – of course – delicious food.
Although early figures were not yet available, organizers reportedly deemed the 2009 event a success.
