Baton Rouge woman, Toddler killed in crash on La. 405 near Plaq.
A 23-year-old Baton Rouge woman and her two-year-old daughter were killed in a crash at 6:30 a.m. Monday on La. 405 just south of Plaquemine, the Louisiana State Police Troop A reported.
The mother, Jamila J. Prince, was driving a 1992 Honda Accord north on LA 405 when she entered a right-hand curve and lost control of the vehicle.
The Accord began to rotate, crossed the centerline into the southbound travel lane, and struck an on-coming 2008 Kia Optima with its passenger side.
Prince and her child, Arielle Duncan were killed in the crash. The child was riding in the right rear seat in a car seat when the crash occurred.
The driver of the Kia, Jason Fruge, Jr., 28, of Rayne, sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene.
Alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash. However, troopers have submitted a sample of Prince’s blood to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. All occupants involved in the crash were properly restrained at the time of the crash.
