School system’s best spellers compete in ‘bee’

Forty-five Iberville Parish public school students competed here Saturday in the 13th annual Spelling Bee contest for second, third and fourth graders. Six went home with school district honors.
Capturing the honors for the second grade were Jasmyn Green of Iberville Elementary, first place, and Kennedy Washington of Dorseyville Elementary, second place.
Two Iberville Elementary School students won the third grade competition -- Koja Sanders, first place, and Bethany Cotton Williams, second place.
Winners of the fourth grade competition were Sydney Neal of North Iberville Elementary, first place, and Da’Shykira James, of Iberville Elementary, second place.
The district champions competed with other school-level winners.
"These students are all winners here today, and we salute them for their hard work," said Elvis J. Cavalier, executive director of special and Community Projects, who served as master of ceremonies for the Spelling Bee Proram.
Finalists participating in the competition were second graders Micah Collor, Kaleigh Daniel, Clifton Dunham, Jasmyn Green, Kaniya Green, Ethan Hyatt, Jacob Jones, Nijah Lacour, Jy’Rielle Myles, Alyssa Samuel, Carnell Scott, Jr., Tamryn Snearl, Carnell Scott, Jr., Tamryn Snearl, Madison Stokes, Kennedy Washington and Andre Wilson;
Third graders Nilaja Anderson, Bethany Cotton-Williams, Makayla Jackson, Abbie Johnson, Justin Jordan, Michael Songy, Ryan Millbrooks, Ricky Morris, Amber Pace, Koja Sanders, Michael Tran, Christian Veals, Abby Verret, Jada Ward and Bianca Williams;
And, fourth graders Ariel Baise, Nathaniel Clause, Cody Foster, Kennedy Givson, Da’Shykira James, Michael Martin, Stefan Miller, Amber Neal, Sydney Neal, Thy Nguyen, Mya Smith, Alarice Stevens, Tarek Taylor, Ryshonne Valentine, and Alexander Williams.
