OPPOSITION REMAIN STRONG AGAINST SCHOOL CLOSURE

Staff reports
A PLEA FOR NORTH IBERVILLE ... Representatives of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference held a rally next to the Iberville Parish School Board Central Office to protest the planned closure of North Iberville High School.

Residents and other concerned citizens converged on the grounds next to the Iberville Parish School Board Central Office to voice their opposition to the planned closure of North Iberville High School.

Some 75 residents -- mainly from the Grosse Tete/Rosedale area -- attended the rally hosted by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

The residents oppose the imminent closure of North Iberville High School, which was approved 8-7 by the Iberville Parish School Board in mid-April.

The speakers at the rally commended residents for boycotting the School Board's planned trip for students to Plaquemine High School to introduce North Iberville students to PHS.

Post/South will feature more on the opposition to the school closure in the May 28 edition.

SAVE OUR SCHOOL’ FIGHT EXPANDS...The Southern Christian Leadership Conference and North Iberville residents stage another rally at the Iberville Parish School Board office in Plaquemine Wednesday. The marchers got support last week from the Iberville Parish Council, which passed a resolution asking the School Board to find another way to educate the children besides busing them to Plaquemine High. At week’s end, a trio of parents filed suit to stop Superintendent P. Edward Cancienne Jr. and the School Board from closing the school.
