Drivers injured in head-on crash
A teenager is to be charged with careless operation and negligent injury after a head-on crash on Tenant Road Friday morning, Iberville Parish Sheriff’s officials reported.
Trey Haydel, 19, of Plaquemine faces the charges after his release from a Baton Rouge hospital, according to Chief Criminal Deputy Stephen Engolio and Maj. Johnny Blanchard.
Haydel’s truck crossed the centerline and struck a car in the southbound lane around 7 a.m., they said.
The driver of the car, Anitia Simoneaux, 62, was hospitalized with several broken bones, the officials said. Both were taken to Baton Rouge General Hospital-Midcity for treatment, however,
Simoneaux passed away later Friday evening due to complications from the injuries she suffered.
In other action, Engolio and Blanchard said, a woman, who was unidentified, ran off La. 77, overcorrected and landed in Bayou Plaquemine near Kirtley Drive around 3 p.m. Tuesday (May 26).
“She climbed out of it and never got wet,” Engolio said, noting that she climbed to the top of the car and walked on it to the bank.
Information could be updated later in the day or tomorrow concerning the car collision.
