Two die in series of three vehicular wrecks on La. 75 Tuesday night

A vehicular wreck Tuesday night took the lives of Randy Hanchett Jr., 29, and Brett Canella, 45, on La. 75.

Hanchett was riding with Canella on an all terrain vehicle south on La. 75 when a Jeep Cherokee, driven by Larry Rineheart Jr., 28, struck the ATV, throwing both men. The force of the impact of the jeep to the ATV driven by Canella caused it to hit the rear of another ATV on the highway, which was driven by Henry Rineheart, 33. After the jeep had come to a stop on La. 75, and only moments after the accident; Mary Weatherford, 48, of Plaquemine, driving a pickup truck north on the highway, struck the jeep, causing a third accident. The wrecks occurred in the Bayou Sorrell area of La. 75.

Hanchett, whose residence was listed as Livonia, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while Canella was taken to the Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge, where he died from injuries he sustained. Canella’s residence was listed in Plaquemine.

Henry Rineheart, whose residence is in Plaquemine, suffered only minor injuries with the ATV he was driving was struck. Larry Rineheart, the driver of the Jeep, is from Plaquemine. He was not injured in the accident. He is a relative of Henry Rineheart.

 Weatherford suffered only minor injuries after her vehicle collided with the Jeep Cherokee.

The La. State Police reported the accidents to the media.
