Members of the Georgia Gulf Chemicals Corp. fire bridge went into action Monday to extinguish a plant fire.

The fire began around 11 a.m. and the company’s fire fighters had it extinguished in 20 minutes, according to G.G. spokesperson Ashley Mendoza.

The company has an investigation underway to determine the cause of the fire and future preventive measures.

Georgia Gulf has fielded a fire bridge for over 25 years and has employees take part in fire training and EMT training on a regular basis. The company has its own mobile fire fighting vehicle on site as well as its own ambulance and plant nurse and medical station.

The Plaquemine plant produces bulk chemicals that are used in the making of housing industry building products.
