Hymel, Landry James “Chick”

A resident of White Castle, Landry James Hymel passed June 22, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. He was 78 years old and served in the United States Marine Corps and owned and operated “Hymel’s Contractors and Tree Service, Inc.” He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 406, White Castle Lion’s Club, Louisiana Arborist Association, Marine Corps League- Choctaw Division and Iberville Parish School Board.

Visitation will be at Ourso Funeral Home of White Castle on Thursday, June 25 from 5 to 10 p.m. and again, Friday morning, June 26 from 8 a.m. until 9:40 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady of Prompt Succor at 10 a.m. Cremation will follow services.

Known to many as “Chick,” he survived by his two children, Danny and Lesa Hymel; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Hymel; two grandchildren, Cory and Caroline, two sisters-in-law, Olga and Ann Hymel and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Delta Landry Hymel Hernandez; father, Philip Hymel; stepfather, Charles Hernandez; Landry James Hymel, Jr.; and brothers Philip Hymel Jr and Guy Hymel Sr.

Torregrossa, Leon Joseph II

A loving husband, uncle, son, brother and friends, Leon Joseph Torregrossa II passed away Monday, June 15 at the age of 48. He was a Bayou Pigeon resident and native of Baton Rouge. He was also an employee of Phillips Seafood and an avid sportsman who loved the great outdoors and devoted husband and father.

Visiting took place at Wilbert Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 17 and from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Bayou Pigeon. A Mass of Christian Burial conducted by Father Joey Angeles followed at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 11 a.m. interment took place at Grace memorial Park.

He survived by his wife of 12 years, Lahoma Ackman Torregrossa and mother Ann May Torregrossa, two sons, Danny Paul Torregrossa and Blane Joseph Torregrossa; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann Torregrossa Bourgeois, Mary Torregroaas Posey and husband James and Marguerite Torregrossa Dozier and husband Darryl; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred Robert Torregrossa, Jr, George Thomas Torregrossa and wife Katie, David Powell Torregrossa and wife Renee, John Edmond Torregrossa and wife Angie and Wilba Thompson Torregrosa and wife Kelle; one sister-in-law, Amanda McAlister and husband Mark; three brothers-in-law, Johnny Ackman and wife Tammy, Michael Ackman and wife Monique and Dale Ackman and wife Debbie; mother-in-law Bobbie Ackman and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

He was  preceded in death by his father, Alfred Robert Torregrossa, father-in-law Howard Joseph Ackman, Sr, brother-in-law Howard Joseph Ackman Jr, and numerous relatives.
