Sorrel man charged in manslaughter attempt
Iberville Sheriff’s deputies arrested one Bayou Sorrel man in the shooting of another several times with a small caliber rifle, Chief Criminal Deputy Stephen Engolio said.
Harold Judice Jr., 29, of 32610 Bayou Sorrel Road, was booked on an attempted manslaughter charge, Engolio said.
The unidentified victim, shot several times in the chin and body, was taken by ambulance to Baton Rouge General Hospital-Mid City, where he underwent surgery, the chief deputy said. He said the man was listed in critical, but stable condition.
“It’s unclear what the argument was about,” Engolio said. “Judice claims the guy was stealing his boat.”
Contrary to impressions sometimes given on television, “you cannot shoot someone for stealing your property,” the chief deputy said.
After the shooting, the victim went to his mother’s house in Bayou Sorrel.
“He was still conscious when we got there and told us who shot him,” Engolio said.
Meanwhile, he said, Judice went to a relative’s house in Bayou Pigeon, where he turned himself in.
