IPRD ALL-STARS REACH CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKETS

Plaquemine IPRD All-Stars reached the final brackets of the Babe Ruth World Series Softball 12 and Under tournament Monday afternoon by beating Kinston/Lenoir, N.C. by a 15-5 score.

The state and regional champion locals closed out pool play in perfect fashion with a 4-0 record and moved on to the final double elimination brackets as one of the final teams.

Host Winston County, North Carolina (3-0) was tied 3-3 in their final pool play game with Hamilton (2-1) when this update was reported. Those two teams, along with Lodi, California (3-1) were vying for the two championship tourney spots in the American Division.

Meanwhile, Plaquemine (4-0) and D.C. Everest of Wisconsin (3-1) reached the final Series out of the National Division. The double elimination tourney begins today (Tuesday, August 11). A champ should be determined no later than Thursday, August 13.

IPRD All-Star Skylar O’Bear notched Most Valuable Player honors for the 15-5 victory over Kinston/Lenoir earlier today. She had a double and a single and drove in five runs for Plaquemine. O’Bear also started the game on the mound, but had relief help from Shelby Willis and Mallory Perrault.

Alana Blanchard and EmilyAnzaldua had key hits out of the lower part of the batting order. Both have had an outstanding series at the plate. Anzaldua has a four-game hitting streak going.

Plaquemine exploded for seven runs in the first inning of the final pool game.
